Federal Judge Who Blocked ICE Arrests May Have Conflict Of Interest: Report

Posted on January 3, 2026 By admin

A federal judge’s signature has now become a political earthquake because of who she is married to. Judge Jennifer L. Thurston’s sweeping order against warrantless immigration arrests in her district didn’t just shield thousands of suspected illegal aliens; critics say it also protected the financial lifeblood of her husband’s multifamily real‑estate business in Bakersfield. In videos reportedly posted then deleted, Marc A. Thurston openly warned that Trump’s deportation plans would gut local rentals and hurt investors, essentially tying immigration enforcement directly to his bottom line.

That is precisely why federal law demands judges step aside when a spouse’s financial interests could be “substantially affected” by a case. Instead of recusing, Thurston ruled — and in doing so, ignited a firestorm over judicial ethics, border security, and whether Americans can trust that courtroom decisions are driven by law, not by a family’s bank account.
